Le Olimpiadi d'Italia The Italian Olympic Games

Oggi,
Nowadays, like 50 years ago, time passes by quickly. Memories, also the nicest, fade away rapidly: it is a characteristic of this short lapse of time and the direct consequence of a longing for renewal and overcoming that makes us always look ahead, pursue new conquests, avoiding those halts, though short, which allow us to catch our breath and re-examine what has been done with calm objectivity. From the moment Rome 1960 Olympic Games closed , for example, a loud and inviting “See you in Tokyo” rose, as if all what had happened in those Games was not interesting any longer; as if there was a haste to close one of the most exciting history chapters ever written. And it was just to fix a lasting memory of unparalleled events such as the Olympic Games of Cortina in 1956 and of Rome in 1960, and to pay them a tribute, that I decided to collect some mementos and documents of those extraordinary events. Since the approaching march towards such important events has always been long and difficult, as well as burdensome and hard-won, I have inserted other editions’ documents in this collection. |
